A brief history of the Platte Valley & Western Railroad

The PV&WRR was initally concieved to be a bridge line thru the Rocky Mountains from Omaha, Nebraska to Ogden, Utah passing thru "Platte City", "River Junction" and several other areas unique to Colorado. While these areas can be placed on a map (similar to above), the designers wanted to give the flavor of Railroading in the Rocky Mountains in the 1950s. The line incorporates the routes of several railroads of that time... Union Pacific, Chicago-Burlington & Quincy, Missouri Pacific, Colorado & Southern, Santa Fe, Rio Grande and the Chicago-Rock Island & Pacific. Rolling stock from all of those railroads can be seen on the PV&WRR as well as other roads from various parts of the country.

The layout was initally constructed in 1984 using a CAD designed building plan in a room that was used as the Jail for Union Station in the ealry 1900s. Several limitations were considered when designing and building the layout. Due to these limitations, the majority of the layout is not accessible to the public.

The Platte Valley & Western Model Railroad Club continues work on the layout refining the scenery and trackage to portray that vision of Railroading in the Rockies.
