The Morraine River Canyon

Just east of Grand Junction and the Stock Yards on Larimer Street, the Morraine River Canyon contains the steepest grade on the railroad. An estimated 3% grade is a challenge for most locomotives. Frequently helper service is employeed to assist trains up the grade.
